Options appraisal, remediation strategy and validation

A remediation strategy is only as good as the options appraisal beneath it and the validation that closes it. I work up practical strategies to LCRM, oversee delivery on site, and produce the verification and validation reporting that lets the regulator sign the work off — the first time, rather than the third.

Materials and soil management

Making the most of what is already on site: maximising reuse, minimising muck-away, and keeping every material movement defensible. Materials Management Plans under the CL:AIRE Definition of Waste Code of Practice, soil resource assessment for reuse, soil management plans and reconciliation. On a £7bn regeneration built on a former landfill, this approach recovered roughly 600,000m³ of material for reuse under a Materials Management Plan rather than sending it away.

Asbestos in soil and made ground

Advisory and site support for asbestos-contaminated ground in full compliance with CAR 2012 and CAR-SOIL — including standing up an asbestos response service on a major project before works began, rather than after the first find. A great deal of asbestos work in soil is non-licensed when handled correctly; knowing where that boundary sits for your ground is the single biggest lever on cost and delay.

Fuel and petroleum site remediation

Hundreds of petrol station and fuel depot sites investigated and remediated, from monitored natural attenuation through to active source removal — soil and vapour screening, detailed quantitative risk assessment, regulator negotiation and sign-off.
